METU Physics Education, part of the Faculty of Education, combines the core subjects of physics with teacher training. Alongside physics courses such as mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics, pedagogy courses such as teaching methods, assessment and evaluation, and classroom management form an important part of the curriculum.
The department teaches both a deep understanding of physical concepts and how to explain these concepts to high school-level students — meaning the focus isnt just on "knowing physics," but also on "being able to teach physics." In the final years, students complete a real teaching practicum at a high school.
Graduates can work as physics teachers at public or private high schools, be appointed to Ministry of National Education positions after the relevant civil service exam (KPSS), or work in areas such as developing educational materials or assessment and evaluation.
Anyone choosing this department should love physics while also genuinely enjoying teaching it to others, be patient, and not be uncomfortable speaking in front of a group.
