METU Physical Education and Sports Teaching

Faculty of Education

METU Physical Education and Sports Teaching, part of the Faculty of Education, combines sports sciences with teacher training. Alongside scientific courses such as anatomy, exercise physiology, and sports psychology, hands-on courses in various sports branches and teaching methods form the foundation of the curriculum.

The department combines theoretical/scientific coursework with practical training in the field — students learn anatomy/physiology in the classroom while also practicing various sports branches in the gym. In the final years, students complete a physical education teaching practicum at a real school.

Graduates can work as physical education teachers at public or private schools, be appointed to Ministry of National Education positions after the relevant civil service exam (KPSS), coach at sports clubs, or continue into academia in sports sciences.

Anyone choosing this department should have a genuine interest in sports and physical activity, be open to both scientific/theoretical and hands-on field courses, and have an energetic nature that enjoys teaching.
