METU Computer Education and Instructional Technology

Faculty of Education

METU Computer Education and Instructional Technology, part of the Faculty of Education, is a relatively new and niche department that combines technology and education. Courses such as programming, instructional design, educational technologies, and distance education systems form the foundation of the curriculum. It is neither a pure computer engineering program nor a classic teaching program — it sits at the intersection of the two.

Alongside training teachers who will teach information technology courses in schools, the department also develops skills such as creating educational software/materials and designing e-learning platforms. In the final years, students can complete a teaching practicum, as well as gain experience in technology-focused projects.

Graduates can work as information technology teachers in schools, as instructional designers/content developers at educational technology companies, or build a career in the e-learning sector.

Anyone choosing this department should have an interest in both technology and education, not shy away from programming, and enjoy designing instructional materials/content.
