METU Early Childhood Education, part of the Faculty of Education, focuses on the development and education of children aged 0-6. Courses such as child development, early childhood education programs, play and learning, and family education form the foundation of the curriculum.
The department combines theoretical courses with observation and practice — students observe in kindergartens and daycare centers, and in the final years complete a practicum at a real early childhood institution. One-on-one interaction with children, play-based teaching design, and communication with families form the departments practice-heavy side.
Graduates can work as early childhood teachers at public or private kindergartens and daycare centers, be appointed to Ministry of National Education positions after the relevant civil service exam (KPSS), or work in areas such as developing early childhood education materials.
