METU Business Administration

METU Business Administration is part of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences — a department thats hard to get into, but not particularly hard to study or finish. It is sometimes jokingly called "the department you can coast through," though thats not really accurate. METU Business is one of METUs coolest departments — its classrooms, building, and cafeteria all feel a bit different from other departments. Students are generally trained to think in terms of maximizing capital in the private sector, marketing products more effectively, and following a minimum-cost, maximum-revenue mindset — and they prove how well-trained they are through their success in the private sector afterward.
Of course, this doesnt apply to every student. Some Business students aim for public service instead, and after various exams, they land positions in some of the states best institutions, applying their knowledge in the public sector. This type of graduate often also holds a strong sense of public benefit.
Courses and student life in Business tend to be enjoyable. The rigid "if p then q" logic you find in engineering is a bit different here. The departments parties are also famous — youll definitely end up attending one.
You should have good English and be open to continuously developing yourself.
Business graduates can work in almost any field. Some people I know work at: the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade, the Treasury, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rating and auditing firms, advertising agencies, tourism, KOSGEB, and EU Project offices, among many other areas.
As for who probably shouldnt choose this department:
Those who just sit quietly and never speak up,
Those who fall apart at the slightest criticism,
Those who think success comes without effort,
Those who cant see beyond their own self-image,
Those who dont understand — and cant apply in life — that "not saying the whole truth isnt the same as lying."
