METU Philosophy, part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, is a department centered on thinking and questioning, covering a broad field that includes logic, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, and philosophy of science. The question what will you do with a philosophy degree is most often directed at this department, but in reality, philosophy graduates build careers in fairly diverse fields.
The curriculum is built around closely reading, discussing, and analyzing classic texts in writing, from Plato to Kant, from Nietzsche to contemporary philosophers. Logic courses also require numerical/symbolic thinking, meaning the department is not, contrary to popular belief, just abstract debate.
Graduates may continue into academia, pursue law school (a philosophy graduates analytical and argumentation skills are valued in law), move into journalism and publishing, public policy and NGO work, or corporate ethics/compliance departments.
