METU Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is a department focused on the production, processing, and property development of metals and other engineering materials (ceramics, polymers, composites). Courses such as materials science, thermodynamics, production techniques, and materials characterization form the foundation of the curriculum.
The department places heavy emphasis on lab work — examining the microstructure of materials and testing their mechanical/chemical properties is a constant part of the curriculum. Graduates play a role in developing materials used across nearly every field, from aerospace to automotive, from the defense industry to electronics.
Graduates can work at defense industry companies (such as TUSAŞ, ASELSAN, and Roketsan), in the automotive and auto-parts industry, at metal production facilities, or in academia. As Turkeys defense industry continues to grow, demand for this department also continues to rise.
